Obligato

Davina Clarke (violin) - Tom Foster (keyboards) - Sergio Bucheli (theorbo) - Alexander Rolton (cello)

Comprising an international line-up of world-class virtuosi, Obligato is a dynamic and innovative period instrument ensemble. Together, they specialise in baroque music with a specific focus on Bach and Handel. The ensemble met during their studies at The Royal Academy of Music, and each member has a flourishing career with the world's leading period instrument ensembles such as the English Baroque Soloists, Academy of Ancient Music, English Concert, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique. They perform regularly both in the UK and on concert platforms around the world such as Carnegie Hall, the Wigmore Hall and Royal Albert Hall.

Every member of the ensemble performs as a soloist, resulting in captivating performances full of new energy and personality. Their first album, Sweet Stillness was launched last year to great success, and focuses on Handel’s Nine German Arias. Driven by Davina Clarke’s love for pairing vocal and instrumental lines, they collaborated with Mary Bevan to showcase the beauty of obligato playing and the expressiveness that this repertoire has to offer.
