Bach’s BWV 156 is a church cantata which was composed in Leipzig in 1729 for the third Sunday after Epiphany. It is well known for it’s opening sinfonia and oboe solo which Davina has recorded instead on the violin, accompanied by Valeria Clarke on the harp.

Shotakovitch’s ‘Romance’ is from the 1955 film, ‘The Gadfly’, which is a soviet, historical drama- a daring romantic adventure depicting the life of an 1830’s Italian hero. As well as being the centre point of this film, the ‘Romance’ is a piece in its own right. Davina performs this with harpist Valeria Clarke.
